The Network

Based in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire Carers Network (SLCN) was formed in 1998 by Unpaid Carers to promote their interests in South Lanarkshire.

Unpaid Carers remain at the centre of everything we do and we align our focus to Carer centred concerns. We aim to be South Lanarkshire Carers’ primary conduit for information and related support. We work holistically to empower unpaid Carers by providing information support and by networking in the community. We are building local capacity and increasing awareness of the value of unpaid Carers in the community. Through this work we aim to ensure that the support they receive is appropriate, person centred and unique to their circumstances.

Our core principles

Our core principles are: Hidden Carers are identified; Carers are supported and empowered to manage their caring role; Carers are free from disadvantage and discrimination related to their caring role; Carers are fully engaged in the planning of services; Carers issues are recognised and addressed; Carers are recognised as equal partners in the provision of care.

Our mission

Our mission is to empower Carers with knowledge and information that will allow them to make informed choices about available known services.  We will work with Carers supporting them to shape services through campaign and change process engagement activities.
